SAN Performance Monitoring & Analysis
The importance of SAN monitoring depends on what impact an application has on a service and how the availability of this service is arranged. The more critical a service is for the company, the more comprehensive and customized application monitoring in the SAN fabric must be in terms of conï¬guration and expansion options.
Application performance - more than „perceived" performance
A solid basis for comparison is the only way to indicate performance status objectively. In NetWisdom/VirtualWisdom, performance information from FC and SCSI layers is therefore continually recorded in a database together with events and then analysed. The information is allocated via the initiator/target/LUN connection, with a graphical format providing a quick overview.
Proactive fault monitoring - more than data collection
Many faults emerge at an early stage but are not noticed at ï¬rst. NetWisdom/VirtualWisdom detects them and issues an alert when a deï¬ned threshold is reached. The dashboard gives the SAN administrator information at a glance courtesy of proactive fault monitoring. Individually conï¬gurable, it highlights “hot spots” in the SAN fabric by providing a visual focus. The ability to customize application views ensures that the administrator can always obtain a quick overview. In critical cases NetWisdom/VirtualWisdom automatically sends messages and alerts via SMS, e-mail or SNMP.
